Travel Insurance

Planning a holiday vacation makes us all feel good. As the date gets closer we become excited about our upcoming adventure and anxious to arrive at our destination leaving all the stress and daily routine behind us to enjoy ourselves with fun and relaxation. That's the plan and we can't wait to leave and actually wish we were there now.

We learn in life that our plans don't always workout the way we had planned. Things happen, airlines may go on strike, weather conditions don't allow travel, unforeseen sickness interrupts our journey or prevents travel. All of these and other unforeseen events can make our plans a disappointment and an expensive venture that did not occur or had to be interrupted. Now we are left with the bills and costs of a planned vacation that did not happen. The possibility of an event occurring became even more real with the recent Iceland volcano, which disrupted air traffic and stranded many vacationers at the end of their holiday.

We can't prevent these unfortunate occurrences from happening, but we can make available to you travel insurance that will soften the disappointment by covering the costs of your travel and accommodation obligations that could not be consummated. The cost of this coverage is small for the peace of mind and benefit that it provides. We suggest that all rental guests consider trip insurance as part of their holiday vacation planning. Listed below are some points that we have learned and suggestions to consider.

  1. This company provides a number of different plans through a number of different companies. The Travel Guard International company plan called Protect Assist (Gold) seems to be a competitively priced policy that would cover most of the risks that we felt were important.
  2. Coverage for medical reasons is subject to 180 day look back period - Pre existing conditon "Waiver" applies if this insurance is purchased within 15 calendar days of the initial trip payment and full pre-paid trip cost is insured.
  3. For hurricane or inclement weather causing delay or cancellation of travel - Purchase must occur BEFORE storm is named.
  4. IMPORTANT If you have signed a rental agreement and obligated yourselves for your accomodation and have not made your total payments when you realize the trip is not going to happen or be completed, it is important that you make full payment of accommodation before filing your claim for reimbursement under the policy. All trip insurance policies only pay to reimburse you for what you have already paid before filing your claim.
